Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of fresh amniotic membrance transplantation in the treatment of pterygium. Methods 36 patients(40 eyes) were completely excised and transplantated with fresh human aminotic membrane. Results The fresh amniotic membrane transplantations were successful in most of the patients and none developed immunological rejection during the follow up of 5-18 months. The curative rate of primary operation for pterygium was 95%,and the recurrence rate of pterygium was 5%. Conclusions Pterygium excision with fresh amniotic membrane transplantation can significantly prevent the recurrence rate of pterygium.
