Postmodern,the Reconstruction of Modernity and the Question of Chinese Modernity

Postmodernism’s critique of modernity provides us a useful perspective to understand modern times. It is helpful to reveal the contradiction and absurdity of modernity. With this critique, people can strengthen the ability to reflect modernity and release its latent rational energy, which will lead to the reconstruction of modernity. For the postmodernists of China, they criticize the westernization nature of modernity, regardless of its universal connotation, so they make an opposition between traditional China and modern west. To evaluate Chinese modernity objectively, we should break through this theoretical frame and realize the tension between universality and particularity embodied in modernity. At the same time, we should use the constructional experience of postmodernism and try to fulfill the liberal function of modernity.
