Modernity and Overall Makeup of Chinese Modernity

Modernity consists of three levels of perception, rationality and reflection-transcendence, etc. Perceptual modernity is the liberated pleasure desires, rational modernity is rational spirit including scientific spirit and humanistic spirit, while modernity on the reflection-transcendence level includes arts, philosophy and religion, etc. is criticism of perceptual and rational modernity. The history of Chinese modernity is characteristic of essential flaws of inadequate development of perceptual modernity, lack of scientific spirit of rational modernity and affirmation of individual values, as well as lack of modernity of reflection-transcendence i.e. philosophy, aesthetics and religion. These issues are to be resolved in face of the current reform and opening up.
