Microanatomical observation and clinical significance in the jugular foramen region

OBJECTIVE To study the normal anatomic features of the jugular foramen,so as to provide anatomic data and theory for the treatment of surgical approach to jugular foramen.METHODS The microsurgical anatomy of the jugular foramen was observed and measured step by step with microscopic skills in 20 jugular foramens of 10 fixed head and neck cadavers.RESULTS In the jugular foramen of the right side of various diameters were greater than left,P﹤0.01.Proximal vertebral artery diameter did not show significant difference between the left and right,P = 0.074,the proximal right was significantly longer than the length of the left,P﹤0.05.CONCLUSION The jugular foramen anatomical parameters and adjacent structure are useful for surgical treatment of lesions in this area.Benefit of surgery in the region major nerves and blood vessels of the protection.
