Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical effects of two different surgical methods for the treatment of senile cataract.Methods Sixty patients with senile cataract treated in the departments from January 2011 to December 2011 were randomly divided into the small incision extracapsular cataract extraction combined with intraocular lens implantation group(observation group) and the cataract phacoemulsification group(control group) according to the random number table,with 30 patients in each group respectively.The vision change,postoperative tear film breakup time(BUT) and SchirmerⅠtest(SIT) of both groups there was compared.Results The total effective rate was 76.67% and 63.33% for the observation group and the control group respectively.In the observation group,26 patients(86.67%) had visual acuity ≥ 0.3;In the control group,23 patients(76.67%) had visual acuity ≥ 0.3.The mean SIT and BUT of both groups 1 hour and 3 hours after surgery increased obviously with a statistically significant differences(P 0.05).Conclusion Small incision extracapsular cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation for the treatment of senile cataract has high safety,improves the visual acuity,BUT and SIT of patients with senile cataract,reduces the incidence of dry eye symptoms,thereby reducing the pain of patients with senile cataract and improving patients' quality of life.
