Evaluation of the masticatory efficiency of complete dentures with lingualized occlusion,anatomic occlusion and linear occlusion

Objective To compare the masticatory efficiency between complete dentures with lingualized,anatomic and linear occlusion.Methods Sixty edentulous patients with severe absorption of residual alveolar ridge were treated with complete dentures of three kinds of occlusion,and the masticatory efficiency was assessed after wearing for three months.A psychometric questionnaire was completed by the patients after wearing the denture for more than 3 months.Results Lingualized occlusal denture was similar in masticatory efficiency to the anatomic occlusal denture and linear occlusal denture.The subjective feelings of patients wearing lingualized occlusal dentures were much better than those of patients wearing anatomic occlusal dentures.Conclusion Complete denture with lingualized occlusion can be used to improve the clinical effect of edentulous patients with severe absorption of residual alveolar ridge.
