Evaluation of masticatory efficiency of complete denture with lingualized occlusion

Objective To compare the masticatory efficiency between complete dentures with lingualized and anatomic occlusion.Methods Forty-eight edentulous patients were treated with two kinds of occlusion complete dentures.The masticatory efficiency was assessed after wearing the denture for three months.A psychometric assessment was presented to the patients after wearing a denture for more than 3 months.Results The lingualized occlusal denture was similar in masticatory efficiency to the anatomic occlusal denture.The subjective feelings of patients with moderate or severe alveolar ridge absorption wearing lingualized occlusal dentures were better than those of patients wearing anatomic occlusal dentures.Conclusion Complete denture with lingualized occlusion can be used to improve the clinical effect of edentulous patients with moderate or severe alveolar ridge absorption.
