Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of telmisartan for decreasing blood pressure and improving glucose and lipid metabolism in senile patients with primary hypertension. Methods The senile patients(over 60 years old,n=95) with primary hypertension were selected and given telmisartan orally for 8 weeks after stopping other antihypertensive drugs for more than 2 weeks. On the 4th and 8th week the levels of blood pressure, plasma glucose, serum insulin, glycated hemoglobin and blood fat were observed and compared with those before the treatment. Results The blood pressure and 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure decreased significantly 4 weeks after the treatment(P0.05).The levels of plasma glucose, serum insulin and glycated hemoglobin decreased significantly(P0.05) after the treatment. The levels of serum cholesterol(CH),triglyceride(TG) and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C) reduced significantly(P0.05),while the level of high-density lipoprotein(HDL) increased significantly(P0.05). Conclusion Besides the better antihypertensive effect, telmisartan can improve glucose and lipid metabolism. It has good curative effect to the senile patients with hypertension combined with metabolic disorder.
