Abstract
[Objective] To study the relationship between seminal plasma Zinc concentration and sperm concentration, morphology and motility. [Methods] Sperm samples were obtained from 87 patients of male infertility. Semen parameters were detected by computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA). The sperm morphology analysis using semiautomatic sperm morphology analyzer was performed. Seminal plasma Zinc concentration was measured by spectrophotometer. [Results] A significant positive correlation was observed between seminal plasma Zinc concentration and sperm concentration (r =0.355, P 0.05). Zinc levels and MAD, BCF have significantly positive correlation (r =0.232, 0.266, P 0.05, respectively). There was no significantly negative correlation between seminal plasma Zinc concentration and sperm morphology, motility (P 0.05). Zinc levels of abnormal group of sperm concentration was significantly lower than that of normal group and fertile group (P 0.01). There were no different Zinc levels among different motility and morphology groups (P 0.05). [Conclusion] Low Zinc concentration in seminal plasma is apparently related to low sperm concentration in infertile patients. Zinc levels in seminal plasma don't influence sperm motility and morphology.
