Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of cefepime in the treatment of the lower respiratory tract infections. METHODS: Sixty eight patients were divided into two groups: cefepime group (36 patients) and ceftazidime group (32 patients). The above test and the control groups received cefepime and ceftazidime respectively, 2 g, iv, q 12 h for 8.2 d± s 2.6 d. RESULTS: The overall effective rates of cefepime and ceftazidime were 94 % and 91 %, respectively. The bacterial clearance rates were 93 % and 85 %, respectively. Both were without obvious adverse reactions. CONCLUSION: Cefepime is a safe and potent antibacterial agent in the treatment of the lower respiratory tract infections.
