Abstract

At the beginning of the Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen abdicated his presidential office to Yuan shih-k' ai because of many reasons. Besides effect of politics, economy and military, Chinese traditional culture should not be ignored in the matter as follows: the idea of unity, the idea of moral standard, the idea of society, the idea of people. It is very important for us to comprehend his abdication on the basis of correcting cognition about the Chinese traditional culture in Sun Yat-sen' s thoughts.
