Analysis of the Therapeutic Effect of Warm Point-to-point Needling on Senile Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of warm point-to-point needling on senile knee osteoarthritis and compare it with that of electroacupuncture. Methods A clinical multicenter randomized controlled trial was designed. One hundred and five patients with senile knee osteoarthritis were randomly allocated to two groups. The treatment group of 55 patients received warm point-to-point needling and the control group,electroacupuncture. Results WOMAC pain,ankylosis and afunction scores and total score decreased more in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion Warm point-to-point needling has a marked reducing effect on the pain,stiffness and dysfunction in comparison with electroacupuncture and is an effective way to treat senile knee osteoarthritis.
