Abstract

The dry friction and wear properties of MoSi 2 against quenched 45 steel were investigated on using an M 2 type tester. The friction and wear mechanisms were analyzed by microrgraphs of the surface and the composition of worn pieces. Results show that the main friction mechanisms are micro glide and adhesive effect with the load increasing. The main wear mechanism of MoSi 2 material is fatigue wear under the lower loads, while adhesive wear is the main mechanism under the higher loads.
