Abstract

Objective:To investigate expression of proliferating cell neuclear antigen(PCNA) in nasal polyps, and to understand the role of cell proliferation in pathogenic mechanism of nasal polyps.Method:The expression of PCNA was determinated in 35tissue samples of nasal polyps and 17 controls from normal inferior tubinates respectively by immunohistochemical method. The cell type and distributed was analysed in positive expression of PCNA.Results: The positive expression of PCNA was significantly higher in epithelium of nasal polyps than that of the control. The difference between these two groups was significant(P0.005).PCNA positive cell were localized on epithelied layers of cystically dilated glands and the down-growing epithelium of nasal polyps. Conclusion:There is strongly proliferation activity in epithelium ,gland cells and localized on inflammatory cell of nasal polyps. Increased epithelial cell proliferation seems to be involved in the development of nasal polyps.
