Abstract

Objective To observe ultrasongraphic changes and therapeutic effects of carotid artery atherosclerosis after using perindopril and simvastatin in patients with essential hypertension. Methods 104 patients of carotid artery atherosclerosis with essential hypertension were divided into treatment group(n=52, perindopril 4 mg/d and simvastatin 20 mg/d) and control group(n=52, simvastatin 20 mg/d only). In both groups, vascular diameters,inter-media thickness(IMT),blood stream velocities, plaques, serum lipid, blood ureatic acid and C-reaction protein were measured and compared with control group prior treatment were compared with those 6 months after treatment. Results After 6 months, the effective rate of treatment group in soft-plaque was 92.3% as compared with control group 86.7%(P0.05), the effective rate of treatment group in hard-plaque was 81% as compared with 50% in control group(P0.05). In treatment group total vessel area(TVA),lumen aera(LA),plaque area(PA),stenosis percentage(S) were markedly proved (P0.05).It may be relation to renin angiotensin system and adjust lipid metabolism. Conclusion Both perindopril and simvastatin can reverse carotid artery atherosclerosis in hypertension patients. It is the best efficacy that perindopril in combination with simvastatin to treat carotia artery atherosclerosis with essential hypertension than those of perindopril or simvastatin single using.Based on experimental observations, it has been suggested that treatment with perindopril and simvastatin may have similar beneficial effects on atherosclerotic vascular disease.
