Evaluation of the Left Ventricular Diastolic Function in Patients with Hypertension by Color M-mode Doppler Echocardiography

Objective To evaluate the left ventricular diastolic function in the patients with hypertension. The propagation velocity (Vp) of early flow into the left ventricular cavity was measured by color M-mode Doppler echocardiogaphy. Methods There were 195 patients with hypertension (aged 50 years 23; 50-70 years 101;70 years 71), and 136 normal objects (aged 50 years 53; 50-70 years 101;70 years 33) in this study. Transmitral and pulmonary venous flow curve, and Vp were measured in four or two chamber view. Results Vp value was decreased ( P 0.01) and blood flow pattern was abnormal in patients with hypertension. Conclusions Vp was not affected by cardiac load and age in color M-mode Doppler. It may have clinical significance as an index in evaluating left ventricular diastolic function of patients with hypertension.
