Abstract

Objective To investigate the association of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) with metabolic syndrome in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods There were 68 obesity type 2 diabetes (group A),86 non-obesity type 2 diabetes (group B) and 68 normal control subjects (group C).CRP level,body mass index (BMI),waist circumference,waist to hip ratio(WHR),blood press,anthropometrical parameters and fasting plasma insulin (FINS) were measured.Insulin resistance (IR) was assessed by HOMA.It was studied whether serum CRP level was associated with metabolic syndrome in type 2 diabetes. Results (1) Group A and group B had higher serum CRP levels than group C (P0.01).Group A had higher serum CRP levels than group B (P0.01); (2) There was significant positive correlationship between serum CRP and SBP,WHR,BMI,TG,HOMA-IR in group A (P0.01).But there was no correlationship between serum CRP and other parameters. Conclusion Type 2 diabetes mellitus have higher serum CRP levels than group controls.Increase of serum CRP in type 2 diabetes mellitus is closely correlationship with metabolic syndrome.
