The evaluation of quality of life with questionnaire scale after treatment with uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty on quality of life in patients with obstractive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OASHS). METHODS 40 cases patients with OSAHS were performed the operation of uvulopalato pharyngoplasty,and the Calgary Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index(SAQLI)questionnaires were completed before and after operation three months later,then health-related quality of life were compared in daily functioning, social interactions,emotional functioning and symptoms,the total scale is the sum of the average scale of each domain. RESULTS Of the 40 subjects in this study,the mean scores on SAQLI were 4.0± 0.9 before surgery,the SAQLI increased in the subjects to 4.8±1.1(P0.05)following operation,especially the aspects of daily functioning and symptoms were improved significantly. CONCLUSION Health-related quality of life in patients with OSAHS were improved effectively following uvulopalatopharyngoplasty.
