Application of damage control operation on serious trauma of earthquake

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of Damage Control Surgery(DCS) in the treatment of serious trauma of earthquake.Methods A retrospective analysis was made on the clinical data of 32 cases treated by DCS in Wenchuan earthquake.Results A total of 32 cases selected with the rules of DCS were treated by emergency operation to control the bleeding and contamination,and then resuscitation in ICU was performed.When the vital signs were stable,the definitive operation was performed successfully.The body temperature,serum pH and prothrombin time(PT) of DCS group during resuscitation in ICU were not significantly different from those of common traumas.All the patients of DCS group survived after definitive operation.Conclusion The correct selection and application of DCS can decrease the mortality of the wounded in earthquake.
