Abstract

Through a case study of water resources management of the middle reaches of Heihe river basin, this paper demonstrates the application of a groundwater numerical simualtion model. The established groundwater flow model could simulate changes of base flow quantities between groundwater and surface water, also of the quantities of springs with time under the affect of natural and human activities. This model is used to analyze different water resources management scenarios. The results demonstrate groundwater discharge to river and spring would decrease continuously, and groundwater exploration increment and seepage loss decrement from proof against channel leakage are mainly balanced from the groundwater storage release. This explaines the measures of limiting the sustained groundwater yield would have to be made for ecology environment protection for present limited water resources.
