Abstract
Awakening to the necessity of calculating regional inequality in Jilin Province,first of all,the authors studied the denotative and connotative meanings of regional inequality,and a hypothesis about the regional inequality formation mechanism was propounded;In empirical research,we studied the change of regional inequality in Jilin Province by decomposing GiNi index and Theil index from 1993 to 2003.At last,some conclusions were reached and causes that produced above-mentioned effect were analyzed,too.Firstly,GiNi index and Theil index had relation to economic cycle;Secondly,second industry played the biggest part in regional inequality.Thridly,Theil index were bigger between county-level cities than prefecture-level cities;Fourthly,from 1993 to 2003 Theil index between county-level cities increased gradually,but it worked the other way around for prefecture-level cities;Fifthly,the centripetal effects explained successfully the change of GiNi index from 1993 to 2003,so we can draw a conclusion that it is not right to think regional inequality were in direct contact with proportion of the three industries;At last some pieces of advice are given on the basis of the above conclusions.
