Abstract
Objective To determine the clinical utility and effectiveness of light wand in emergency airway management of nasotracheal intubation.Methods We retrospective study 60 subjects(experimental group:30 subjects were performed light-guided intubation,30 controls were performed bland nasotracheal intubation),in the emergency Dept.from January 2009 to December 2009.The time-consuming,success rate and complication data was recorded.Results The light-guided intubation group was significantly consumed less time for nasotracheal intubation compared with the controls(light-guided intubation group:(29.1±4.8)svs.controls(41.8±9.9)s,P0.01);There were lower complication rate(light-guided intubation group:6.7%vs.controls:20%,P0.05)and higher success rate(light-guided intubation group:90%vs.controls:83.3%,,P0.05) in light-guided intubation group.Conclusion Light-guided intubation has been proven to be an effective,safe,and simple technique.
