THE EXPRESSION OF MMP-9 mRNA IN PERIPHERAL BLOOD MONOCYTES OF PATIENTS WITH LARYNGEAL CARCINOMAS

Objective To investigate the expression of m atrix metalloproteinase 9 mRNA (MMP 9 mRNA) in peripheral blood monocytes of patients with laryngeal Methods A total RNA was isolated from peripheral blood monocytes (PBMC) of 20 normal persons and 58 cases of laryngeal carcinomas. The expressi on of MMP 9 mRNA was determined by RT PCR. Results The expression in PBMC of patients with laryngeal carcino mas was higher than that of the controls, the difference was obvious ( F=187.75 , q=6.13-33.38, P 0.01), the expression increased with the increase of clinica l stage and histological grade ( F=187.75, 193.12; q=11.23-30.95; P 0.01). The difference was significant in different tumor stage and of tumor cells. Conclusion The expression of MMP 9 mRNA in peripheral blood mono cytes of patients with laryngeal carcinomas might be used as an index for predic tion of the prognosis of the disease.
