Abstract

The starch grafted surface sizing agent was synthesized through free radical polymerization, by using styrene(St), butyl acrylate(BA) and Nhydroxymethyl acrylamide(HMAM) as graft monomers. The effects of the dosage of ammonium persulfate, initiator and monomer on surface siz-ing were studied. The optimum synthesis conditions are as follows: the dosage of ammonium persulfate being 5%, m(FeSO4)/m(H2O2) being 0.03, m(monomer)/ m(strach)=2, m(St)/m(BA)=2, and HMAM dosage being 3%. The sizing degree is more than 60 seconds when the sizing content is 0.09% and the dosage of aluminum sulphate is 0.3%.
