Abstract
The chitosan graft copolymer used as surface sizing agent was prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization with styrene(St),butylacrylate(BA),N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide(HMAM) and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride(DMDAAC) as major monomers in oxidation-reduction initiator system.The copolymer was characterized with infrared spectrum(FT-IR),static contact angle and SEM.The optimum synthesis conditions are as follows: m(monomer)/m(chitosan)=25,m(St)/m(BA)=2.5,m(KPS)/m(chitosan)=3.0,m(FeSO4)/m(H2O2)=0.03,and HMAM dosage 6%.The application experiment results demonstrated that when the dosage of surface sizing agent is 0.4%,the paper can achieve the best performance.
