Abstract
Objective To evaluate the sealing of root canal filling with Guttaflow system in vitro. Methods 60 freshly extracted mandibulars first premolar with single root were collected and their root canals were prepared with ProTaper Ni-Ti rotary system using the crown-down technique. The teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups and treated as follows:group 1: root canals were obturated with Guttaflow and a single 0.06 tapered gutta-percha point;group 2:root canals were obturated by continuous wave technique;group 3: root canals were obturated by cold lateral compaction technique. Then roots were sectioned at 2,4,6,8 mm from apical foramen. All sections were observed under a stereomicroscope. The percentage of gutta-percha-filled area (PGP) was calculated. Results At the 2 m,4 m levels from apex,PGP of Guttaflow group was higher than that of continuous-wave group and that of cold lateral compaction group(P0.05),but there were no significant differences between PGP of continuous-wave group and that of cold lateral compaction group(P0.05) . At the 6mm,8mm levels, there were no significant differences between PGP of Guttaflow group and that of continuous wave group, but PGP of both were higher than that of cold lateral compaction group. Conclusions Guttaflow had higher quality of sealing in root canal filling.
