Ondansetron for Patient Controlled Intravenous Analgesia after Caesarean Section

Objective:To evaluate the efficiency of Ondansetron in prevention of nausea and vomiting during postoperative analgesia.Methods:120 patients of Caesarean section with PCIA were randomly divided into three groups with 40 cases in each group.The patients in group A were given Ondansetron 8 mg intravenously followed by PCIA with Ondansetron 4 mg in 100 mL;in group B by PCIA with Ondansetron 8 mg in 100 mL only;in group C with Droperidol 5 mg in 100 mL.The number of cases of nausea,vomiting as well as antiemetic application after operation were recorded.Results:In group A,2 patients were affected with nausea,1patient with vomit;In group B,4 patients were affected with nausea,2 patients with vomit;in group C,8 patients were affected with nausea,4 patients with vomit.There has a significant difference among the 3 groups(P0.05).Conclusion:The application of Ondansetron can significantly reduce nausea and vomiting during postoperative analgesia and is of clinical value.
