Abstract

Objective To discuss the effects of 0.5% povidoneiodine on the prevention of dry socket caused by impacted mandibular third molar extraction. Methods 700 cases of impacted mandibular third molar extracted were divided into two groups, subject group and control group. The former given the treament of 0.5% povidoneiodine before and after operation and the latter only given 1% iodine tincture and dry cotton ball cleansed after operation staying for 30 min. Results There was only one person infected with dry socket 321 cases returned among 350 cases in subject group, with the incidence rate of 0.31%and in control group there was 15 cases infected with dry socket 318 cases returned among 350 cases, with the incidence rate of 4.72%.There was clear statistical significance(χ2=12.70,P = 0.0004) between them. Conclusion The result demonstrates that the povidoneiodine can prevent the occurrence of dry socket.
