Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of the combination surgery including cataract phacoemulsification and astigmatism corneal keratectomy. Methods Ninety-six cases(108 eyes) were divided into two groups for pre-operative astigmatism degree, group A(≤1.50 D,60 cases,72 eyes) and group B(1.50 D,36 cases,36 eyes). All eyes of two groups were treated with the surgery of cataract phacoemulsification with 3.2 mm incision and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation at the most dioptric strength meridians. Then a penetratical arc incision was made at the opposite side of former incision according to excess astigmatism degree in each eye of Group B.Results In group A,the pre-operative average astigmatism degree was(0.84±0.39)D;The post-operative average astigmatism degree were(0.82±0.46)D,(0.77±0.29)D on one month and three mon-ths,respectively.There was no statistcal difference with astigmatism degree between pre-operation and post-operation(P0.05).In group B,the preoperative average astigmatism degree was(3.09±0.91)D;The post-operative average astigmatism degree were(1.86±0.87)D,(1.40±0.78)D on one month and three mon-ths,respectively.There was statistcal difference between them(P0.01).The correction index of group A and group B were 1.00,0.92,respectively.The index of success was 1.32 and 1.30 by VECTrAK software. Conclusion The combined surgery including cataract phacoemulsification and astigmatism corneal keratectomy could reduce the surgical astigmatism, and it can rectify the pre-operative astigmatism if associated with penetratical arc incision at imbus of cornea.
