Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effect of the different incision options for correcting pre existing corneal astigmatism in phacoemulsification.Methods:Phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lens implantation were performed on 57 cases(66 eyes with pre existing corneal astigmatism ≥1.0 DC),using a corneal limbal incision without suture. The changes in corneal astigmatism before and after surgery were compared in group A(22 eyes,incision at the superior for with the rule astigmatism),group B(22 eyes,incision at the temporal for against the rule astigmatism) and group C(22 eyes,incision at the superior nasal or superior temporal ignoring the astigmatism axis).Results:The corneal astigmatism changes between pre and post operations were 0.55 D,0.72 D and 0.10 D in groups A,B and C,respectively. The difference was statistically significant(P0.05) in groups A and B,but there was no statistical significance(P0.05) in group C.Conclusion:The choice of incision location has an influence on the correction of corneal astigmatism. [
