Abstract
Objective To study the effect of unilateral chew on temporomandibular joint and mastication muscles. Methods 80 white rats were divided into two experiment groups and two control groups. The right maxillary molars of all the of experiment groups were extracted. The rats of the first experiment group and control groups were killed 4 weeks later, and those of the second groups were killed 8 weeks later. The pathological changes of TMJ and mastication muscles were studied. Results There were pathognostic changes in TMJ and mastication muscles in unilateral chew. Conclusion The unilateral chew was one of the causes of temporomandibular joint disorders.
