Abstract
Objective: To study the effects of unilateral chew on electromyography of mastication muscles. Methods:40 white rats were divided into two experimental groups and two control groups. The right upper and lower posterior teeth of all the experiment groups were ground to the gingival level without occlusal contact. Electromyography(EMG) of the mastication muscles were studied of the rats from the first experimental and control groups after 10 weeks , and for the second groups 16 weeks later. Results: The EMG between the experimental group and the control group was significantly different. Conclusion: The unilateral chew was one of the causes of temporomandibular joint disorders.
