Abstract
New achievements in hydroxyapatite research are reviewed. The prospective,preparation methods and characteristics of hydroxyapatite materials are described and evaluated. It is concluded that the focus of hydroxyapatite research has shifted from simple chemical synthesis to biomineralization, inducing role of hydroxyapatite for newly-grown bone,and template mechanism of bio-tissue or bio-cell. Meanwhile,rapid advances are being made in the technology of hydroxyapatite coating on matrix of metals or ceramics and synthesis of hydroxyapatite from natural resources.
