Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of matrine on proliferation and apoptosis in human breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Methods MCF-7 cells were cultured with matrine solution(group A) or culture solution(group B).The proliferation of MCF-7 cells was measured by MTT assay, and the change of cell morphology was observed.Bax and Bcl-2 expressions were detected by flow cytometry. Results Compared to group B,the proliferation of MCF-7 cells was significantly inhibited in group A in a time-and dose-dependent manner with increased apoptotic rate and Bax expression, but decreased Bcl-2 expression. Conclusion Matrine is able to significantly inhibit the growth of MCF-7 cells and induce apoptosis, which is related to an increase of Bax and decrease of Bcl-2.
