Abstract
Within the framework of Grice's Cooperative Principle and related theories of pragmatics, the paper focuses on the pragmatic functions of the kind of communication, in which the participants are assumed to cooperate, while the speaker blatantly violates one or several maxims of the Cooperative Principle. The paper discusses the pragmatic functions from the aspect. of humor of the language.
