Abstract

Mododispersed poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid) sub-microspheres with different surface carboxylic content were prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization.By SEM and TEM examinations,it is found that those obtained copolymer microspheres have a uniform diameter and show perfectly monodispersed property.Through changing the amount of acrylic acid in the process of polymerization, the diameter of those microspheres could be controlled. The surface carboxyl of the microspheres was testified by FTIR and XPS,and their contents were calculated by the XPS results. It is found that the surface carboxyl content could be controlled by the amount of acrylic acid used in the polymerization.
