Abstract

Surface-carboxylic poly(styrene-co-acrylic)(P(St-co-AA)) sub-micron spheres were prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization. The microspheres were observed by transmission electron microscope to be uniform and monodispersed in diameter.Through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),the existence of carboxyl on the surface of the microspheres were validated and its′ content was controllable by the amount of acrylic acid used in the polymerization.
