Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of paeonol on growth and apoptosis of human colon carcinoma cell line LoVo.Methods In vitro cultured human colon carcinoma cell line LoVo was treated with paeonol.Cell proliferation was evaluated by MTT.Cell apoptosis rate was determined by flow cytometry, and apoptosis was confirmed by morphology. Results The proliferation of LoVo was inhibited significantly by paeonol in a dosage dependant manner(range from7.81~250 mg/L,P0.05 or P0.01).Observing under microscope, some LoVo cells underwent a typical apoptosis after incubation with paeonol for 48h.Cells apoptosis rate was significantly increased in paeonol group compared with that in the controls(P0.01).Conclusion The results indicated that paeonol inhibits the proliferation of colon carcinoma LoVo cells. The anticancer mechanism is related to induce cells apoptosis.
