Abstract
Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of enalapril /hydrochlorothiazide combination in patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension. Methods A randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial was conducted. All 55patients were randomized to enalapril 10 mg Qd, enalapril 10 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg Qd or enalapril 10 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg Qd group. After 4 weeks, if DBP90 mmHg, we titrated dosage of enalapril. Results After 8 weeks of treatment, the sitting blood pressure (BP) was significantly reduced in all groups(P0.01). Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were more decreased in the combination group than in the enalapril group,15.31 mmHg vs 15.46 mmHg vs 10.13 mmHg. The response rate in the combination grouop was higher than in the enalapril group(P0.05).Adverse events among groups were comparable. Conclusions enalapril/hydrochlorothiazide combination is effective and safe for patients with mild to moderate hypertension. The BP reduction in enalapril/hydrochlorothiazide combination group is more significant than that induced by enalapril.
