A Survey on Fertility Desire and Fertility Purpose in Gansu Province

Based on the survey data in 2007,this paper analyzed the fertility desire and fertility purpose in Gansu province.According to our survey,we found that: with the development of economy and improvement of society,desired number of children of residents in Gansu province declined continuously,which was slightly below replacement fertility;the phenomena of son preference existed widely;the most prevalent expectation was having one boy and one girl;the desired age of women first childbearing was increasing;purpose of childbearing was multiple,but inheritance and maintenance were the most important ones.
