Abstract
Objective To explore the changes in serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1(TIMP-1) in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI) in early stage, and the correlation with national institute of health stroke scale(NIHSS) score, and the possible mechanism in cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury.Methods60 patients with ACI in early stage(6~24 h) were selected, and NIHSS score, serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1levels were measured within 24 h after onset,5 d and 14 d after treatment, and were compared among different clinical type and different clinical efficacy, also the correlation of serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 with NIHSS score were analyzed. Results In different clinical type and different clinical efficacy, serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels were increased within 24 h after onset, and increased to high level on 5 d after treatment, and decreased to normal level on 14 d after treatment. At the same time point( 24 h,5 d,14 d),there were no significant differences on NIHSS score and serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels between CE and LAA group(t=0.16~1.08,P0.05),yet CE and LAA groups′ NIHSS score and serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels were all higher than that in SA group(t=3.45~4.96,P0.05).With the efficacy increasing(progress, effectiveness, basic recovery),NIHSS score and serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels were all decreased gradually(F=3.50~4.92,P0.05).Pearson linear correlation analysis showed that NIHSS score had positive correlation with serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 level on corresponding time point(24 h:rNIHSS~MMP-9=0.62,rNIHSS~TIMP-1=0.49,P0.05).Conclusion Serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 may play important role in ischemia reperfusion in patients with ACI in early stage, and their levels have increased within 24 h after onset, and are increased to high level on 5 d after treatment, and decreased to normal level on 14 d after treatment, also the level are gradually increased with infarction severity, and have positive correlation with NIHSS score,so it may be helpful to predict infarction prognosis.
