Clinical controlled study of risperidone and clozapine in treatment of schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and the side effects of risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia.Method The schizophrenic patients in 32 cases were treated with risperidone and a control group of 31 patients treated with clozapine. Both groups were assessed with the PANSS and CGI, before and after treatment to evaluate the effects with positive and negative symptoms, and the side effects were evaluated with TESS.Results The therapeutic efficacy in risperidone group was similar to that in clozapine group(P0.05). But the side effects of risperdone were lighter than that of clozapine.Conclusion The risperidone and clozapine are effective in the treatment of positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia, but risperidone has the advantages of convenient administration with lower dosage and side effects.
