A study of risperidone in the treatment of first-oneset schizophrenia

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety between risperidone and clozapine.Methods Thirty schizophrenic patients were treated with risperidone and another thiety patient treated with clozapine.The efficacy was measured with the positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS),while the side effects were determined by the treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS).Result The efficacy rate of risperidone was 86.7%,in which 76.7% were improved markedly.The efficacy rate ot clozapine was 80.1%,in which 66.7% were improved markedly.The PANSS scores in both groups decreased significantly after treatment,risperidone has less side effects than clozapine.Conclusion Risperidone is of good efficacy,high safety and less side effects in treating schizophrenia,and patients had better compliance.
