Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect and prognosis of montelukast in treating bronchiolitis in children. Methods One hundred and six children with bronchiolitis were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. Both the two groups were given the same comprehensive treatment. In addition, the treatment group was given montelukast 4 mg/d,taken one time every night. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared. Results The average duration of relieving symptoms was(5.8±2.1)days in treatment group, and that in control group was(8.6±3.7)days.The average hospital days of treatment group was(7.8± 1.6)days,and that of control group was(11.2±2.8)days.There were significant differences between the two groups(P0.01).After 3 months of follow-up,pant recured in 4 cases(7.4%) of the observation group and 12 cases(23.1%) of the control group. Conclusion In treating infant bronchiolitis, montelukast is effective to use in relieving symptoms, shortening hospital days and reducing recurrence of children with bronchiolitis.
