Improvements on Foreign Language Teaching Methods

Popularizing foreign languages,fostering professionals in foreign languages,improving foreign language teaching methods and teaching standards have come to be determining factors that greatly influence China's economic and social development.The status quo of foreign language teaching and learning in schools of all kinds and levels reveals that a system of foreign language teaching methods that conforms to the country's reality is yet to be developed.Some critical problems commonly shared among the schools are waiting for solutions,such as,teachers lacking professional knowledge of foreign language teaching and learning methods,teachers talking too much and students practicing too little,teachers being unable to arouse students' enthusiasm of study.This paper aims to seek an approach to the improvement of foreign language teaching methods by combining teaching methods,like pattern drilling and situational teaching,traditional teaching methods and modern computer-assisted instruction,and curriculum study and extra-curriculum study.
