On the Forms,Evolution and Developing Trend of the Contemporary Chinese Historiography

In the perspective of the purpose and researching idea,contemporary Chinese historiography contains three main forms,which are the mainstream historiography,the elite historiography and the public historiography.The elite historiography defferentiates itself from the mainstream historiography in the aspect of the acdemic standards and discourse system greatly.The former attaches great importance to the independent thoughts and critical spirits while the latter refers to the Marxist historiography with the distinct ideological characteristics and systemetic historiography discourse system.The public historiography takes social demands as the guidance and all the public are involved in production,dissemination and application of historical knowledge.The evolution of the three forms has experienced two stages roughly,the first stage is from 1949to 1979and the overall characteristics is the mainstream historiography dominates the historiography field,the second stage is from 1980till now and the overwhelming characteristics is that the mainstream historiography faces the tests,the elite historiography grows up and the public historiography rises suddenly.All of them faces problems during their developments.The mainstream historiography must set up different schools on the platform of marxist theories,extend its poewer of individual qualities,interact with the elite historiography and the public historiography if it wants to keep its mainstream position.The elite historiography should expand the areas of research consistently,form academic schools gradually,provide new explanation framework for understanding history continuously.The public historiography has kept rapid development and large influences, meanwhile it needs theory constructions and discipline constructions urgently.The mainstream historiography and elite historiography should enter the public historiography also,taking participate in the public historiography production,dissemination and application.
