Auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with Mitomycin C (MMC) for the treatment of pterygium:an analysis of 30 cases

Abstract

Objective:To observe clinical efficacy of auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with MitomycinC for the treatment of pterygium.Methods:Auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with 0.02% MitomycinC after excision were performed in 29 patients(30eyes)with pterygium.The recurrency rate was observed over a 6-18 months follow-up period.Results:All patients’ cornea healed well.Recurrence of pterygium was observed only in 2eyes.Conclusion:Auto-corneal limbus stem cell transplantation combined with MMC is an effective therapy for pterygium.It can obviosly reduce the postoperative recurrent rate of pterygium.
