Abstract
Objective:To observe the effect of Epmedin C of estrogen in ovariectomized mice. Methods: Anesthetized with 0.4%pentobarbital sodium, mice of the ovariectomized groupwere conducted with Bilateral oophorectomy, while fat beside ovaries were removed on mice of the sham-operation group. After operation 45 days, all mice were divided into 6 groups,as sham-operation group(isometric water),model group(isometric water),positive drug group(diethyl-stilbestrol,2 mg·kg~(-1)),high doses of Epmedin C group(20 mg·kg~(-1)),middle doses of Epmedin C group(10 mg·kg~(-1)),low doses of Epmedin C group(5 mg·kg~(-1)),with 14 mice in each group. Each group underwent intragastric administration once a day for 60 days. Then all mice were killed to weigh the uterus and calculate uterine factor. The content of estradiol in serum was determined by ELISA.Results:Compared with the sham-operation group, body weight of mice of model group were significantly increased, uterus weight and uterine factor and estradiol levels were significantly reduced, which suggested a significant difference. In comparison of the ovariectomized group, body weight of mice were relieved significantly and uterus weight and uterine factor and estradiol levels were increased significantly in all Epmedin C groups and diethylstilbestrol group(P0.05 or P0.01 ). Conclusion:Epmedin C has estrogen-like effects for ovariectomized mice.
