English-Learning Motivation of English Majors under the Policy of Free Education for Students Majoring in Teaching

This study aims at exploring the motivation of English majors and summarizing the types of their motivation under the circumstances of the policy of free education for students majoring in teaching,through questionnaire and semi-structure interview,in the hope of promoting policies related to Free Normal Education and providing certain references to the cultivation model of tertiary normal education.The subjects are 402 English majors enjoying Free Normal Education,who were enrolled into the School of Foreign Languages in Southwest University in September,2007.Factor analysis with SPSS 13.0 of all the data divides their motivation into eight types,i.e.personal development motivation,Interest motivation,social responsibility motivation,cultural integration motivation,family responsibility motivation,policy motivation,professional belief motivation and certification motivation.The achieved result shows that the policy of free education for students majoring in teaching exerts direct or indirect effects on students' motivation for learning.
