Abstract
Through the results from the FEM for slope stability analysis, the distributing rule of stress, strain and deformation, plastic zone in the slope can be quantified, also the approximate position of gliding surface and safety factor can be gained. In this paper the criteria of evaluating slope stability based on strength reduction FEM are evaluated. The conclusion is that the criterion based on the convergence of solution is more reasonable. The bank slope stability of one reservoir is analyzed.Compared with the safety factor on traditional method, the reliability of strength reduction FEM is conformed and can be applied to practice engineering.
